The story about the shared needle amuses me because I see how people treat *each other* when there is a shared resource which perceived scarcity, such as one bathroom and too many full bladders. ;) The thought of vicious community politics over a needle...

I think appreciation has a lot to do with right mind, right circumstances, and right timing, rather than uniqueness/scarcity. If you get what you want when you want it, you'll savor it. But what would you do with that pony you wished for as a girl when you're a retiree in a Manhattan condo?

A friend and I were discussing the other day stories about sewing needles during pioneer times. Needles were rare and sometimes there was only one needle in a community. The "stories" say that all the women shared the one needle. Something tells me that while sewing was a necessity - the women who shared the needle valued it and the stitches it produced. Though they may not have celebrated it.

I'm all for celebration of our work and lives. It's all about being in the moment isn't it? I also think that work with our hands brings us to the "moment".
Best wishes.
