Yesterday was my last day in the office at Adobe. I’m on call through the end of next week, but I don’t expect them to need me…meaning my “vacation” has just started! I’m elated, and also a little bit sad. I’m not particularly sentimental over Adobe – I wasn’t particularly happy there (which is of course why one leaves most jobs), but I’ll miss some of the people. So, and so. So it goes. One moves on.
In celebration of my new vacation, I’ve decided to put something fun on the loom. (I cut off my weaving samples Thursday, so I could take it to the Black Sheep Guild meeting – yes, I have now been to my first guild meeting yesterday!) Nothing complicated, like the learning pieces I’ve been doing lately – this is a checkerboard shawl in plainweave, using a gorgeous red-orange-fuschia yarn and black. (I was tempted to do it in complex twills, but a few experiments suggested that it would look better in plainweave.) The yarn is beautiful – two strands of cotton, one rayon, and one metallic, twisted together for a fingering-to-sportweight yarn that’s just gorgeous. It’s made by Blue Heron Yarns – expensive but the most beautiful yarns I’ve seen. I’m looking forward to weaving it.
(I will post my weaving samples on my website when I get a chance, probably later this week.)
Cooked dinner last night – a pasture-raised chicken roasted with lemon and rosemary in the cavity, and slices of garlic slipped between the skin and the meat. Baby leeks sauteed with morel mushrooms on the side. The morels complemented the leeks nicely, the lemon and rosemary added a nice flavor to the chicken. The pasture-raised chicken was good, but not (IMO) so much better than supermarket chicken to justify a 10x increase in the price. Sometime I will have to try the chicken from Hoffman Game Birds (also in the Ferry Plaza market) and see if it comes out better.
Anyway, dinner was tasty, and it’s remarkable what one can whip up in relatively little time – about 70 minutes start to finish. Still not as quick as a bowl of ramen, but if you’ve got the time, why not?
Time! I look forward to having plenty of time, for the next two weeks. 🙂
