Recover, regroup, move on

I spent most of yesterday being pretty crabby about the HGA exhibit thing, but finally decided it was just silly to worry about it.  (See my previous post about clinging.)  Nonetheless, this shift throws all my plans into confusion.  I’m very goal-oriented (in case you hadn’t guessed), and like to have things planned out in advance.  Shifting from high gear (trying to get everything done by February) into lower gear (getting everything done by June) has thrown my mental engine more or less out of whack.  I’m still trying to figure out what new targets are realistic and useful.  And what I should do with the extra free time.

I do believe one project will be entering yardage in the Convergence yardage exhibit.  I think I’m going to enter the eternity-knot yardage, anticipating that I will have enough left over to exhibit when the time comes.  I have a 27.5 yard warp on the loom, and will (assuming no mistakes) only need about 15 yards, so if all goes well I should have plenty left over.  I’m also going to enter the yardage for the cashmere coat, if I can find a perfect 3+ yard section.  The yardage for the dress has (I feel) too many  flaws for me to be comfortable about entering, and as the pattern is very subtle (and hard to photograph) it’s unlikely it would get in, anyway.

I think my new plan is to work simultaneously on sewing up the dress and weaving the yardage for the coat.  This will give me more variety in what I’m doing.  I want to finish up the coat yardage and the dress by the beginning of March, and be done sewing the coat by mid-April.  That should give me plenty of time, and a framework to plan around.

It’s funny how some people find goals and deadlines paralyzing, and others are happiest with specific goals and timelines in mind!

Speaking of such, my goal for today is to finish threading (960 threads down, 420 to go), sley, tie on, and start weaving.  Also to get my sewing machine repaired and finish cleaning up the chocolate carnage.  Yesterday I spent nearly all day running around on one errand or another, so I didn’t get much done.  Here’s hoping today will be better!

    Hi Tien,

I think you have quite enough on your plate to complete by June without worrying about any ‘free’ time! I, too, am very goal oriented so I understand your feeling of having the rug pulled out from under your feet. But I’m sure that will quickly pass in light of the much more important deadline in June. 🙂

    Cheers,
    Laura
