Yesterday was The Fuzz’s Birthday (Observed). We don’t know exactly when he was born, since he was a semi-stray, but when I got him in December 1991, the doctor was pretty confident that he was six months old. So his birthday is sometime in June, and we decided to celebrate it yesterday. I cooked two of his favorite foods, shrimp and sweet corn (yes, I know that’s bizarre), and gave him a plateful. (Just a little bit of the corn, since cats are really not supposed to eat the stuff. But plenty of shrimp!)
Here’s a photo of the birthday boy:
His leg is still shaved from his veterinary ICU trip; it’ll grow back eventually.
Anyway, it’s quite an accomplishment for a cat to reach “drinking age”, and we’d have offered him champagne if we’d had any in the house. (A gross oversight on our part.) As it was, we toasted our beloved Fuzz, stuffed him full of his favorite foods, and told him (again) how much we loved him.
The frantic packing continues. I’ve packed several more boxes in the kitchen and am tackling the garage this morning.
And the zucchini’s continuing quest to own the world? It continues:
The leaves keep looking a little smaller in every photo because I keep having to step back to capture the entire plant.
And this is what it looked like just 12 days earlier:
Enough pottering with plants and photos! Off to pack the garage.

congrats, Fuzz!
wish MY squash were so healthy! I am starting some other ones in another part of the garden, thinking that this might be part of the problem with the ones I have. Two of the plants appear healthy, but the blossoms don’t open! I get the buds, they get large, then fall off. It’s SOOOO frustrating. Everything else is doing great. I am going to have more cucumbers than I can comfortably contemplate, okra, eggplants etc. I am going to try planting seeds from the “exotic” veggies I got at the Asian/Latino grocery. What’s trying to take over the world in MY garden is the oregano and the rosemary. I am going to package some up for selling at the Fall crafts-fairs. The oregano rocks..the flavour is SO strong! Ditto my lemon-balm!
Well, wishing the Fuzz endless plates of shrimp, sunny spots to lounge in and continued life and love!!!

happy birthday to the fuzz!

Congrats to the birthday boy! I’ve had several cats that enjoyed sweet corn over the years, and one that would steal cantaloupe if you didn’t give her her own slice. Silly kitties!

Your phrase, “the ominous zucchini”, is rambling around in my head. It might just sprout into some wild project! Thanks for the phrase 🙂
